This CCNP book is a mess... as others have said... it's like it wasn't reviewed very well before published... there are graphics/configs/examples evidently missing (where it should be, it actually says things like "ILLUSTRATION... need to get this done tonight...") but I guess he didn't get it done that night! Weird to see author's notes in a final printed version.The labs are a mess, a complete mess. Configuration results sometimes don't match the current lab or the last lab! So you're stuck trying to figure out what changed. Sometimes configs change but he doesn't instruct you to change it. Other times they revert back to previous lab configs, but he doesn't tell you. I really wish he would AT LEAST identify a base lab config prior to each chapter... at least. But no, you're stuck trying to figure out where he started his labs in each section.Having said that, trying to backward engineer configs and figure out configs from what he's TRYING to explain does force me to learn it better. An unintended consequence for those that do the research.The book is easy to read, and he has a plainspoken way of presenting the information. If you want to just read through this quickly, it will be a little confusing... trying to follow the examples... they are all over the place. But if you take the time to investigate his labs, and figure out what he's trying to do, you can learn a lot from it. Which is why I gave it 3 stars.* Update * As I used this book to completion, the mistakes got worse and worse. I just couldn't let it go without commenting... and lowering the review to 2 stars... for example, he'd use an illustration of 172.12.23.1 and 172.12.124.1... and then he'd refer to 172.12.123.1... huh?! So you have to decipher which address he was referring to... this got tedious and confusing... simple mistake if it happened once, but it was prevalent throughout the book... I'd rather LEARN what I'm reading not decipher mistakes!

I got to the advanced OSPF chapter and decided that the lack of flow and explanation was too hard to follow. I like my training material to be self contained, it seems like this book necessitates a lot of online research, which isn't a good way to do things. For instance, my CCNA book (different author) had it's lack of explanation too which led to many hours of extra thought, but was pretty well detailed and was my only source. In some areas, it had an incredible amount of detail, which I like.This book, on the other hand, had me working with a frame relay network out of nowhere, with no explanation. I had no prior experience with frame relay and the CCNA only briefly described it. I found the authors video to learn more about it, so was sidetracked.Besides what is lacking, the book seems like the same exact thing as the authors video series, but with LESS explanation.

If you want to lab up everything be forewarned that he seems to have not intended this. Many times not enough info is provided and he will switch up seemingly unimportant information mid lab. Its unimportant if you're just reading but if your labbing it up kind of a pain to go from "setup this BGP sceniario then, the next page the AS numbers are different". I've found this to be the case multiple times.

This book is great. It is full size 8.5x11 inches. I has larger print that is easy on the eyes to read and it's leave plenty of room to write in great notes. It coincides nicely with the video course that Chris offers. It has great easy to follow labs that show all the commands and output, in case you don't have your own practice equipment. I really like having the hard copy so I can pull it out and study anywhere I am if I have a few minutes. I passed my CCNA with Chris's Book and Course and now I am onto my CCNP. This book is a great deal for the price.

The content is great. I like his writing style. He explains things well. What I didn't like was the hard copy of the book. It was too big and poorly published. I ended up reading the whole book on my free Kindle version. I'm definitely going to purchase the switch guide but I'm just sticking with the digital copy.

I do like the book, i tend to follow better than videos or require a mix in my learning to absorb the info... This book is pretty identical to the udemy course, i on page 45 and found 3 errors, 1 on pg 45 an output screenshot is actually missing left with a reminder for the author to finish it up at night?? Goofy things like this are fine if its once or twice, i hope i dont run into to much more by the end of the book.

Very good study guide. One criticism is that the lab setups are so different for each topic, I was reconfiguring GNS all the time to keep up. But overall a very solid book. But as with all test preparation (and learning a new skill in general) never take one authors view on a topic. I always read at least two books for each exam.

Well written. Easy to read. Not pedagogically effective. It would be better if it had some exercises to "check for understanding" and to reinforce our learning. Most people cannot learn effectively with a straight narrative. Also, does not serve well as a reference work. There is no index. If you want something to read along with whatever else you are using to study, this may help. But if this is the only book you use, it will be insufficient to study from.

About the Author
Dr. Roxanne Brant (1943 –1986), founder of the Northern Florida Christian Center in O'Brien, FL, conducted miracle services and crusades throughout the United States, Canada, and other parts of the world. She studied at Harvard Divinity School, Boston University School of Theology, and Gordon Divinity, earning B.A., M. Div., Th.D, and D.D. degrees. Funny when I ordered this for my son I had read the previous reviews and was worried that when it came it would be dried out. My son had seen this kit is the Crayola store in Kansas City and was ready to buy it there but dad talked him into being a smart consumer and checking prices elsewhere. Amazon had a lower price so we went for it.The reason I said that the situation was humorous was instead of the kit coming dried out... it came way more wet than I expected. I opened it expecting to find it possibly dry, and the pads were more like sponges than ink pads. I guess I was expecting ink pads but they were more like wet paint on little sponges. They were however very wet.I am not sure if the company tried to compensate for the dry review from previous purchaser and added water to them before they shipped, or if this is how wet they usually come. but, that being said...I wished that they were ink pads instead of paint pads. They are paint pads on sponges. When you use paint instead of ink your finger prints end up more like blob than actual fingerprints with ridges. The coolness of the product is that you want to actually tell they are fingerprints.Sure you could put the paint on your finger. dab it off a few times until you get to the good print spot then make your real print, but then you are somewhat wasting the paint/product by making test prints until your print is right, plus a 6 or 7 year old is going to want to just start printing not dabbing and test printing. The paint ends up on the sides of your fingers if you press down, which is what the average boy is going to do, then each print even if dabbed ends up with a paint ridge ring around the outside of it.I guess I had high hopes for this product. and don't get me wrong he did make a whole battledroid army scene, vs the Gungans from episode 1 on our giant roll of butcher paper. But if it was ink pads I would not have had to supervise as much as I did with the paint.Good scores for encouraging boys to work with pencils and lines. He felt confident he was able to make these on his own even though he does have some trouble with fine motor like many little boys with writing.Sadly after that one use of me supervising so that paint would not end up where it shouldn't. The kit has not been used. He has not mentioned it, and I have not been excited to get it out. I think I will get some ink pads in similar colors and have him give it a go again. You could always save that step and get ink pads and look up ideas online as a guide. Great idea! but I feel the only way to save it is to switch to ink pads.

Gift for our 7 yr old daughter ! She loves it and has a lot of fun with it. She had a little trouble at the beginning making the perfect little figures, but after a few minutes she was a pro at it and had a lot of fun ! The paint seems to be wash off easily and dry quickly on the pages ! This book is a great way to keep creativity going and also involve Star Wars a little bit :) Perfect for the indoor fun !

My 11 year old son got this as a gift and he loves to doodle and draw all the time. I thought he would love it, but he was rather disappointed that his first attempts didn't come out quite right. I encouraged him to try again, testing the size of fingerprints on other paper first and now he loves it again. So my only advice is, perfect the technique of fingerprinting on a scrap paper before you begin to put them in the book! This is no fault of the book, so I'm definitely giving it five stars!

One of my kids favorite Christmas gifts. He opened it up and started playing with it right on the spot. He was finger painting not just on the book but all over loose sheets of paper that I gave him. He is 6 years old and I was afraid he would be more into the electronics that he got, but he really loved this book.

I love this book! The concept, the size, the completeness of the packaging. I can't imagine anything else that would be needed to enjoy this product. Because it's a Christmas gift for him, ( shhh! Don't tell!) I don't know how he's going to react, but this grandma was hard pressed not to try it out for him...

Bought this for my 7 year old son for Christmas and he loves it. Even his older sister has enjoyed it. You can do the thumb doodles right in the book which my son likes because of the background art. Of course you can easily do it on a separate sheet of paper as well. The ink and marker work well and the directions are easy to follow. No complaints!

My 5 year old son LOVES this kit. He created all the characters it taught him, and now he is coming up with his own fun creations. It has been a huge hit since Christmas of 2013.

I ordered this book for my nephew for Christmas. When it arrived, I noticed the pages had been inserted upside. We were able to fix it but bent and slightly damaged some of the binding in the process. I hope this was a one off and that others didn’t receive books that had been assembled incorrectly.
